I'm finally succumbing to the flu. I've been feeling a little loopy these last few days, but have had enough adrenaline at work for me to ignore other symptoms. But Friday morning, oh lord, the nail was shoved behind my eyeball. Sinus headaches are the worst ever. I got the chills, the diarrhea shuffle (it's some kind of extension pain, I swear - it's got the same feeling, but nothing happens), even some equilibrium issues - that is until I popped a glorious green pill - a decongestant, 1 year passed it's expiry.
My drug of choice today? Dristan.

Orchestra
I'm wondering if my time with orchestra is up. I'm sitting in rehearsal right now, kind of bored, not really inspired to be here. I should be counting the measures - but I'd rather wait for cues in the music. We're doing the Brahms Concerto for Violin and Cello - it's nice and tuplet/duplet. Curious how I just heard the first movement of the violin concerto yesterday, and then listened to the piano concerto last night - I'm just not a fan yet. His concertos are so weighty, with nice moments, but nothing that I immediately walk away with.

The Body of Christ
A good analogy today. rather than the typical, what part of the body are you?, but if Christ is the head, do you look like the head? Are you even remotely the same "creature" as the head? Think all the theme parks, where there are boards with cutouts for your head, Sponge bob, giant pineapples, oscar meyer, etc, etc. Not extremely deep, but pertinent.

Feist
I very much enjoy the song and artist. (Thanks Zaak for the first mp3 of this song). Ron Sexsmith's original version is great too. Diana Krall's cover, well duet with Ron Sexsmith, is weak for the range issues, but still good. This Feist version grabs my imagination to what early female punk may have sounded like. I enjoy the sound quality, instrumentation, and the fact that no one looks overly conjured (except for Feist, maybe). And the keyboardist is sitting.
you enjoy.

Old White Churches
So again, this topic of christian churches, populations, and my generation. Why don't we see middle-aged people in church? My sunday church today was missing them today.
I support Willow Creek, but can I really support it when I'm not a witness to their overall activities? Are they really only a model for urban (or SUV suburban) communities? Can smaller churches ever hold the same appeal? How can smaller churches match the draw from larger, innovative churches? And is it hard for older churches to appear innovative in old churches.
I know I'm personally biased to the music, and will choose a church based on their music, or in berrien case, if not involved with music, will hit New Life and then PMC. I'm a defector. But I can be.
Funny, I sat in on New Life for the sermon this weekend. So maybe not a solid rule. So, but it was a oration of a MLK sermon, and King makes a statement on 2 classes of negro churches. One was caught in being stale, and the other "may have more religion in their hands and feet than in their hearts and souls." I may too be guilty.
While on the topic, I'm googling MLK sermons and not finding transcripts that match what I remember from yesterday. They mostly match, but words are different. Are there different versions? Someone educate me. And, if you're orating an MLK sermon, is it respectful to end your oration and jump straight into your own call-and-response addition? I was a little offended for Dr. King. But I can be educated.

the President.
I decided to abstain from the President's message this evening. I'm tired of the same old thing - even when its new words for the same old thing. Figure I can get the highlights and subtleties tomorrow morning.
And where on earth did we get "subtle" from? What happened to the "b"?

I am arrogant.
Running through the check out today, at Meijer, my preferred grocery retailer, in the face of all you Martin's devotees, I decided that I had a special ego regarding my ability to eat fruits, vegetables, and generally healthy food. This was of course in comparison to the pounds of beef, chicken fried steak, powdered mashed potatoes, beer, candy canes, etc, in the shopper's cart ahead of me.
Of course, I qualify - my ability. I had 3 cheese pizzas in my cart. They were on sale.

resolve or resolute
I think I appreciate "resolve" more. I am typically a solution person, and these are all issues I must solve. I don't need a stroke of midnight to change these suckers.
"I resolve to exercise more."
"I resolve to watch less television."
"I resolve to do more music."
"I resolve to be less ambivalent."
"I resolve to be optimistic."
"I resolve to have more friends."
"I resolve to enjoy fish."
"I resolve to somehow sleep in."
there, that wasn't so hard.
